Panax ginseng (scientific name: Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer) is an araliaceae, Panax genus perennial herb. Up to 60 cm; Rhizome short, taproot fusiform; Palmately compound leaves 3 -- 6 whorled stem apex, petiole 3 -- 8 cm long, glabrous; Leaflets 3 to 5, membranous, central leaflets elliptic or oblong-elliptic, 8 to 12 cm long, lateral leaflets ovate or rhomboid ovate, 2 to 4 cm long, apex long acuminate, base broadly cuneate, finely serrate, teeth prickly, sparsely hairy above, glabrous below, lateral veins 5 to 6 pairs; Petiole 0.5~2.5 cm long; Umbels solitary stem apex, with 30 -- 50 flowers, peduncle 15 -- 30 cm long; Pedicels 0.8 -- 1.5 cm long; Flowers pale yellow-green; Calyx 5-denticulate, glabrous; Petals 5, Filaments short; Ovary 2-loculed, style 2, free; Fruit oblate, bright red, 6 -- 7 mm in diameter; Seeds kidney shaped, milky white.
