Cochineal red

Cochineal red is a pigment obtained from inside the body of female cochineal insects.

These insects grow on cactus plantations in Central and South America. A large part of cochineal red now comes from Peru because of the favorable climate in Peru and the rich resources of wild and artificial cactus plantations.

As a safe natural pigment, carmine cochineal extract is economically and socially important to study the extraction of cochineal red pigment.
