Rutin is the main active component of sophora japonica. Flavonoid aglycones including quercetin, kaempferol, isoflavone aglycones genistein and sophora japonicin have been isolated from flowers and flower buds. The saponins contained in the flower buds of Sophora japonica were hydrolyzed by acid and separated into betulin and Sophordiol. Dextrose and glucuronic acid were detected by paper chromatography. The sophora saponins can be isolated from the carbon extracted by n-butanol after ethanol percolation.
